We’ve received an update regarding cooling stations for those that need it in Hillsboro. Remember in this heat to please check on neighbors, family and friends that may not be able to get help if they need it. Please keep your pets inside with plenty of water. Please stay out of the sun when you can and drink lots of water. Make sure to move slowly and not overly exert yourself. Tempers run hot in the heat so take along a little extra patience, especially in traffic.
Here are the cooling stations in the city of Hillsboro available to those in need, they will have air conditioning and water available:
- Brookwood Library, 2850 Brookwood Parkway, Hillsboro
- Shute Park Library, 775 SE 10th Avenue, Hillsboro
- Hillsboro Community Senior Center, 750 SE 8th Avenue, Hillsboro
- Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center Lobby, 953 SE Maple Street, Hillsboro
Again, if you have elderly neighbors that might be especially sensitive to the heat, check in on them!
Other great ideas are to save using electricity in the peak times of day by not running your dishwasher or doing laundry. Watering your lawns should be done in the very early morning hours or later in the evening when the sun isn’t overhead. Keep you eyes on your children playing as they will over heat quite easily. Know what heat stroke looks like and what to do for it. Wear hats when you can and sunscreen always.
What are your ideas for keeping cool in this extreme heat? It looks like August may be a hot one so we want to know what you do too. Whatever your plans may be, we wish you a cool and happy August and sincere hopes that September cools down!
